Goth Glamour
These pale, bared-back faces weren’t devoid of make up. Maximum effect was put into this minimalism. Romantic
Lolita-esque, just-sucked-a-lollipop stained lips in shades of berry or coral were the look at DKNY, Amand Basi and Biba – usually accompanied by dewy translucent skin and practically bare eyes with just a lick of brown mascara. The look is innocently sexy.
Roland comments, “Use a matte or highly-pigmented lipstick and apply with your fingertips, starting from the centre of the lips and patting outwards, but stopping short of the lip edge, complete the look with a hint of blush for a sweet ‘Roman Holiday’ look.”

To create a wearable, everyday version of this striking look, try to tone it down with softer colours and lines. If you’d rather play up the eyes, try a splash of bright colour – in New York we saw canary yellow at Benhaz Sarafpour and electric blue at Threeasfour. Roland comments, “If you’re going bright on the eyes, you’ll need to go ultra-nude on the lips – pick a colour just one shade darker than your skin tone, so that they’re nearly erased. Make sure skin is flawless for maximum pulling power.” |
