Patsy's April
Hi ladies (and hopefully a few gents out there too!)
Well, my last instalment I was trying to get over the Make Up Box girl’s annihilation of my make up bag. Who would have thought that that much powder could build up in the bottom of such a small bag! So, now, with my new found make up products you would think that it would all up and up from hereon in…………… you would think…….. but let’s face it, this is Patsy we are talking about and nothing is ever straightforward in my world. So I arrive at a photo shoot with Paula, one of the Make up Box’s founders, a former partner in crime from our Tanbridge days (now there are SO many more stories from that little chapter of our lives, but that’s for another day) and I have applied my make up as I have for years, you know, waterproof mascara put on with the end of a eyeshadow brush in a nice straight line under my eye (I am so clever, as it’s waterproof it doesn’t run – don’t you just love that?!) and my brand new blusher in a nice line on my cheekbones, well I think they’re my cheekbones, it’s on my cheeks anyway and my piece de resistance the nice pale ‘gob job’ that I have been wearing since I was 16, keeps me young you know. All was going swimmingly until the photographer said nice and loud to my beloved school friend, “your Mum’s looking good for her age………..” It was a silence that I don’t think that poor man will ever forget. It was at this point that I knew just buying good make up products just wasn’t enough, I needed help putting them on!!!
Paula got to work. Apparently I needed dragging into this century, ditch the thin, dry foundation that was doing me no favours (sitting in the ever increasing wrinkles on my skin was not a good look!) and swap to an incredibly light one that is so sheer yet gave the coverage I needed in my mid 40’s….. depressing heh! She binned my self-invented equipment and showed me the simple, yet very effective method of enhancing my eyes with a soft brown eyeliner and eyeshadow using an angled brush to bring out what she called “my stunning blue eyes” – if she thinks that’s going to get her off the hook for all the other insults…………. Anyway, apparently it’s all about keeping the lines soft as we get older and the “less is more” theory is really important for a lovely natural look.
It all got a bit tricky when she tried to terminate the life of my pale pink lipstick (well ok, my Iron lady purple from Top Shop) but Paula’s quite a wrestler and persuaded me to try on a “nude” lip gloss to go with the cream peachy-pink blusher and I have to say, she has taken 10 years off me (where on earth they have gone no-one knows). I feel transformed! Now then Paula, I have a night out coming up……………
