Smokey Eye Makeup for Sexy Eyes
‘Smokey eyes’ have been a much sought after look with Hollywood celebrities for years. Why? It’s a great eye makeup style that’s versatile and suits every face.
Dependent on your mood, and your style of clothes you can be daring, as bold as subtle or as reserved as you want.

Choosing your ‘Smokey eye’ colours. Personally I prefer working with eye-shadow powders, easier to get the wonderful smudgy look. It’s important to select a light base eye shadow to match a rich dark partner. Such as a pinky base and deep purple, mellow yellows and rich orange, shades of light blue and vibrant greens, soft oak brown and the darkest purple, soft peaches and deep gold, a champagne base always compliments a vibrant red. Or you can go for the more traditional sexy look using grey, coffee, and mocha and of course the old favourite, a smouldering black.
A couple of good makeup tips to remember are that dark colours tend to make small eyes look even smaller. And the secret to the perfect ‘Smokey eye’ makeup is proper blending. You want to make sure colours are blended together flawlessly. |
Prepare the Face
Some makeup artists prefer to begin with ‘Concealer’ and ‘Foundation’ others prefer not to. Really it’s what works for you; I always do my corrective makeup first and then use a good primer/eye shadow base and a HD foundation on the eyelids.
Eyeliner
Next apply the ‘Eyeliner’. Use a pencil with a soft point. It feels so much nicer. Depending on the makeup look you want to achieve for your ‘Smokey eyes’ you can go for a typical black, brown, grey or elect to go for a hue of dark blue, green or purple eye liners. First apply liner above the upper lash line, drawing line thicker in the middle of eye and apply your eyeliner beneath the lower lashes. If you want a softer ‘Smokey eye’ look apply a lighter eye pencil shade to beneath the lower lashes. If you have small or close set eyes you can open your eyes up by applying eyeliner starting from the middle of the bottom eyelash line, rather than from the inside corner to the outer corner of the eye.
Base Eye shadow
Start with your light ‘Base Eye Shadow’; use a soft eye shadow brush to apply the lighter eye shadow into the inner corner of your eye and blend up to the base of your eyebrows. If you want a full smudgy eye effect you can add a light amount of base eye shadow beneath the lower lashes.

Dark Eye shadow
Apply your ‘Dark Eye Shadow’ colour onto the outer corner and upwards to the crease of your eyelid, being careful not to blend the dark eye shadow into the crease of the eye, and to keep much of the colour depth along the top eyelashes.
You don’t want to look like a panda bear!
Gently smudge and blend the two eye shadows harmoniously together. Making sure to blend colour into the top lash line.
Mascara
I always curl my eyelashes before applying 2 or 3 coats of black ‘Mascara.’ Then pencil in the eyebrows using a fine eyebrow pencil. |
 |
Blusher
Your ‘Blusher’ colour, again being careful to be subtle with your cheek colour, just the faintest of touch of blusher onto the apple of your cheeks and finish with a dusting of light ‘Translucent Powder.’
Lips
A good makeup tip to remember to compliment bold ‘Smokey Eyes,’ is to keep your lips light and natural, use a soft pink pearl, caramel or nude ‘Lip-gloss.’ If you’ve gone for a soft, smudgy eye look then you can afford to use a bold lipstick such a dark red or rich purple on your lips.
