Six Top Self-Tanning Products – Tips How to get the Best Tan

a few self-tanning tips-2

Spring has sprung, and the summer is just around the corner, if you want to get that fabulous healthy, glowing golden tan before you get into your skimpy beach attire then now’s the time to go for it.

This year there are even more self-tanning products on the market than ever before. To help you choose which one is the best self tanning product for you I have experimented with a selection of tanning products to use in the comfort of your own home so that you may achieve that blissfully gorgeous all over body tan throughout the summer.

So What’s The Secret?

The secret of a natural looking tan is in the application! There is nothing worse than having dark elbows, orange hands and feet or streaky arms and legs.

self-tanning-tips-3The most important steps to achieve this look is to make sure that you have removed any unwanted hair and that you spend time exfoliating the dead skin with a good body scrub, my first choice is ‘St Tropez Tan Enhancing Body Polish,’ and secondly to make sure that you use a good barrier cream, ‘Vaseline’ works well, and to apply generously onto the palms of your hands and onto the soles of your feet and make sure that you follow through with a light covering across the back of the knees and elbows.

It’s always a good idea to pop on a pair of fine latex gloves when you are applying the solution on your body and once you are happy with the overall coverage, remove the gloves and lightly apply the tanning solution across the wrists and over the back of the hands, this way you will not end up the back of the hands a far darker tan than the rest of you.

Always use a tanning mitt when you apply the tanning cream, gel, foam or spray as this will help avoid unwanted streaks. A soft back brush is ideal to get the product in between the shoulders.

To help your tan last keep your body well moisturised, there’s nothing quite like a rich body butter or lotion to do the job.

My last tip is when you apply your tanning solution to try and stand in between two long mirrors, this way you can see exactly what you’re doing and you won’t miss any bits!

My Top 6 Self-Tanning Products…

Tanceuticals CC Self Tanning body Lotion, Dark

Once applied this product gives a smooth bronze shade, which feels great on the skin, dries quickly and is not sticky or streaky and seems to last longer than any other self-tanning product I have tried before. It really looks great for an entire seven days. It also has a lovely coconut smell.

San Tropez Self Tanning Mousse

If you have a very fair skin and don’t want to go to dark then this is the one for you. The mousse is light and airy and goes onto the skin smoothly, and can be quickly and easily applied, dries within fifteen minutes and won’t rub off onto your clothes. This is the perfect choice to achieve a subtle healthy glow that will last just for the weekend.

Body Drench Quick Tan Sunless Tanning Mist

For the price this is an amazing spray tan, you can find it on Amazon! No streaks, No orange. This product truly enhances your natural skin tone and only needs to be topped up every five days to keep you looking like a perfect sun bunny.

Dior Bronze Autobronzant Self Tanner

This is a luscious gel-cream tanner that gives a rich tan that lasts up to five days, blends easily, dries quickly. A fabulous product to keep your summer tan topped up all year. The only small drawback is that it has a strong perfume based smell when you initially apply the gel-cream but it soon wears off after a couple of showers.

No 9 Aqua Tan Self Tanning body Milk

Personally I love this! With only one application this product gives a beautifully smooth rich golden tan and works well on all skin tones, it smells great too, enriched with cucumber, white tea and green tea extracts it hydrates your skin whilst tanning, the tanning milk dries quickly and is not at all sticky.

Fake Bake Flawless

Is one of my favourite liquid self-tanners, especially if you want to go a really good, deep dark brown colour, it smells good and dries fast and the tan lasts up to five days. The only drawback with this tanning product is that this one is not the easiest product to apply as it does have a very watery consistency and so can be very messy. You will defiantly need to use a mitt or sponge to apply this product, but the end result is most definitely worth it!
